ANGEL PUSS & POOCH RESCUE

Angel Puss & Pooch Rescue is dedicated to the spaying and neutering of pets in the immediate vicinity of Los Angeles County and to educate the public in general as to the suffering caused by the overpopulation of cats and dogs. They truly are "Born To Die," born to be "Angels" - thus our name.

ORGANIZATION'S STATUS:
Angel Puss & Pooch Rescue is a 501(c) 3 non-profit public charity. We are not funded by the government or grants. We have been surviving on the donations from the placement of pets. We are now planning a fund-raising campaign for the purchase of property and the funds to build the shelter and clinic. We need your help. We refuse to show you abused animal pictures that are 15 years old. We prefer to offer a more positive picture of happy, rescued animals that will have a long complete life because Angel Puss & Pooch rescued them. All animals that are rescued by us must be returned to us if the new pet owner cannot for any reason keep them. We rescue for the life of the animal. We will, if the owner cannot afford it, do vaccinations and worming for the life of that pet.

ADOPTIONS:
We do adopt to senior citizens and families with children. We do adopt to ranchers and farmers. The insane idea that senior citizens should not adopt a puppy or kitten is preposterous. Petting of animals is beneficial to the longevity of humans and lowers blood pressure. They also take the place of the unconditional love that is missing in our family units in today's society.

PROJECTS:
One of our projects is to provide pet food for the San Fernando "Meals on Wheels" homebound senior program. We would like to expand the program to other areas, but we neither have the money or the staff to do so, which is why we need your help.

We work with teenagers in foster care programs, in particular, taggers, banger and abused teens. They start out in the adoption program learning to handle and groom, and the importance of disinfecting everything that comes in contact with the pets that are in a kennel or cattery environment. Those who are interested in a future in animal health, continue to learn about vaccines and the "how-to" of nutrition, etc., with emphasis on spay/neuter.

We are just initiating a program with 18 precincts of L.A. City Police Departments to work through the neighborhood watch programs to have each block captain organize their own neighborhoods to assist us in trapping and spaying and setting up fed colonies in their neighborhoods. We will provide food and vaccinations for these colonies. Those that will not set up colonies, we will move to other areas and set up fed colonies. All left ears on the animals are notched by the Vet at the time of surgery to assure we can identify any newcomers that have arrived at the colony. The feral cat problem can be solved humanely without euthanization at the shelters. These colonies will eventually die out on their own
if maintenance is done in each neighborhood. They will also become tame when their hormones are removed and can then be placed in homes.

EDUCATION:
Euthanization does not work nor do mandates (such as those of San Mateo County). Education, particularly of the ethnic population that castration of male animals is not a bad thing, it does not take away the "macho" male image.

Educating the public in general that spay/neuter of their pets decreases the chance that in older years their pet will have cancer. We need education for the public and empathy for those four-footed creatures who give us all unconditional love without demand or exception. Spay or neuter is the right thing to do for them. Animals only do what comes naturally - breed. Humans should know better. It's, therefore, our responsibility to solve this problem since it is we who largely created it.

GOALS:
Our Ultimate Goal is to build a "No-Kill" shelter and free spay and neuter clinic.
